Emmie Conway has problems. Tall, arrogant Josh Hamilton problems.
I’ve just had a haircut – a five-weekly event because of my short hairstyle. I don’t know what the other clients at the salon made of it, but I was greeted with exclamations of, “Kris! Your new book! It’s so sexy!”
The book in question is PROMISE YOU NOTHING, and it’s number eight in the South & Sexy Series. Except they’re all standalones, so you can start on any number you like.
PROMISE YOU NOTHING is set in the famous little city of Napier, New Zealand. It’s famous because most of it fell down in a massive earthquake in 1931. It was rebuilt in the art deco style, and its buildings now rival those in Santa Barbara. (Photo provided of classic cars and architecture in Napier.)
We’re talking about a much older building in the book, though. A timber house at least 120 years old – very like the one in this photo. (insert photo of white house.)
Emmie Conway’s brother has suddenly died. Their jointly owned ‘wrecked and ready to reno’ house is now unsaleable. And she might… just might… be pregnant, so her emotions are all over the place. She needs a competent builder, a way to pay off her huge debt, and a miracle. What she gets is implacable, bossy Josh.
He’s fresh out of an unhappy marriage, bitter and bruised, and relocating his property development company to a new city. He’s missing his little daughter fiercely, and she’s the only female he wants in his life right now.He sees Emmie’s job as the ideal challenge to take his mind off his past life, and he fights to give her everything he’s convinced she needs.
Emmie thinks he’s the fixer-upper from hell as she battles for her independence and survival. He’s doing a great job on her house, but does he really have to display his chiseled shirtless body to her as he works in the sweltering summer heat?
Her ‘possibly pregnant’ hormones are doing a gleeful tap dance, and soon more than her house is in danger.
So if you enjoy a sexy read (like my hairdresser does!) try PROMISE YOU NOTHING. Nothing but five-star reviews so far.

About the author:
I’m a New Zealander who was born to write. At twelve I completed my autobiography – an easy subject which required no research. It filled a whole school exercise book. I’m not particularly proud of that, but there we go…
My first proper job was as a radio copywriter in the small city where I set PROMISE YOU NOTHING. Then I moved to the capital, Wellington, and worked in TV, radio again, several advertising agencies, and followed it with happy years as a retail ad manager. Totally hooked on fabrics, I followed this by going into business with my husband as a curtain installer, which definitely surprised a few people. It was finally time to write fiction. I didn’t fall off my ladder once through drifting off into romantic dreams, but I certainly saw life.
I write sizzling contemporary romance, pure and simple. Well, maybe not that pure! They’re sexy stories about modern couples who fall in love and into bed along the way, just like real people do. I’m the author of more than twenty novels, three of which were finalists in New Zealand’s Clendon Award. Five have been translated into Spanish, two into Italian, two into Portuguese, and five are now for sale in China under the author name of Kerri Peach. I’ve made enough money to buy a cup of coffee in China!
