AN UNLIKELY WRITER

I fell into writing by accident. My love, my passion, drew me to drawing and painting—and to earn a living at it. Without a college education, my future had more to do with natural talents. Whether or not I had it in me to pursue my dreams or work for an employer in community service. I chose the latter which eventually led me to writing later in life than most—in my early 50’s.

My parents weren’t wealthy and couldn’t afford to send me to college. It’s a tale that most of us who grew up in the ’60’s and’ 70’s have. We are the generation of the hands-on working class that most people know as the post WWII Baby Boomers. I’m a part of that group and in our current culture wars, feel it every day.

While many in my high school senior class were taking SAT’s for college entrance, I didn’t have it in me to continue education or attend a community college. At that time, community colleges were free with very little money required for books and the like. I haven’t researched colleges these days, but I would imagine there are larger bills facing the student for local college education.

I spent most of my high school training in the art room. An above average student, my interests drove me to hours with a paint brush and creating landscapes in oils. What better place for an artist to end up but the art room? I loved it there. Preferred to be in my own quiet world than any place else. My instructor was one of the premier artists at the time in the city of Modesto, and probably still dabbles in his paintings of sports celebrities in action. Mr. Streeter had an eye for color and a talent for encouraging the rest of us who took art seriously. Not only did he instill a work ethic in art, but I used that same ethic in everything I did after graduating. What he taught us made me into a bit of a teacher myself.

The writing part of my creative juices hid from me while I ran my sheep and border collie mail order catalog, and business, Ewephoric, in 1985 and beyond. It was our 4-H club families who begged me to write a book on how to raise sheep. Teaching kids animal husbandry with sheep and to excel in the show ring came from my art. In 2009 that book request became a reality when Among the Sheep was published through an Amazon company. Writing the memoir/how-to-sheep-book was such an enjoyable experience! So much so that I felt it was time for me to dive into writing fiction. Stolen Obsession is the first book of a series starring Annalisse Drury, who longs to be in the country and encounters many human hardships to attain that goal. I still run Ewephoric and my fiction is a large part of the business today.

Silver Dagger Book Tours is now 2
years old this month!
Believe it or not, Silver Dagger Book
Tours was created and is mainly operated by just one person!
I used to be just an internet crawler
looking for new books and giveaways and stumbled upon book tours.
After indulging in many dozens of tours, I decided I’d like to try my
hand at blogging in my spare time (with absolutely no blogging
experience at all!) I was a book blogger for several companies (and
still am) and stuck with it for over 3 years. In that time, I learned
all the ropes and became a pretty efficient blogger, but there was
still something missing- I wanted to make my posts stand out a bit!
So, I started creating small graphics like “about the book” and
the other standard graphics that you see in all my tours nowadays and
started jazzing my posts up.
I became pregnant with my second child
in the fall of 2015 and me and my hubby decided to try to purchase
our first home finally, so I quit my waitressing job to pack up
everything for the move and never looked back!
It took several months of trying to get
the ball rolling and was quite difficult at first to get authors to
tour with me. Thus, I had an idea to let everybody pay what they can
comfortably afford instead of set rates as I thought what some other
companies charged were just outrageous!
Since then, I have done over 1000 tours
and worked with hundreds of amazing authors – many who come back
for repeat tours! I have 2-3 tours kick off every weekday with
occasional tours on the weekends and EVERY tour is required to have a
giveaway so readers can gain a little something and have fun while
they enjoy learning about new books.
I have an absolutely amazing group of
bloggers that share my tours on their sites and really couldn’t have
gotten this far without their continued support and would like to
thank each and every one of them! Ya’ll are amazing! I also have two
assistants that help me check links and keep up with blogger activity
– Janet, who’s been with me over a year, and Laurie, who is a new
addition. Ya’ll ladies are spectacular and I couldn’t do it without
you!
Absolutely everything else is
completely run solely by me though and I really enjoy organizing
tours and helping new authors get discovered. I don’t discriminate
and host ALL fictional genres in ALL age ranges as me and my bloggers
have a broad range of readers that enjoy many different genres.
After two years of astronomical tours,
I am going stronger than ever now and growing on a daily basis with
plans to continue hosting tours for many many years!
If you are an author interested in

A third generation local of the
historic town of Fredericksburg, TX, I was born and raised among the
rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country where the beauty of the
landscape is breathtaking and town is famous for the Main Street historic
shopping district, the best peaches in the world, wildflowers and
wine. I really can’t imagine living anywhere else!
A country girl through and through, I
grew up hunting, fishing and digging for Indian artifacts, all the
while enjoying the many rivers and swimming holes around town. I’m a
stay at home mom with three beautiful boys, ages 9, 2, and 1 that
encompass my entire world!
A bookaholic from birth, I have always
had a deep passion for reading and spend many late nights devouring
books into the wee hours of the morning. My “real” book
collection numbers over 3000 books and take up an entire small room
in our house with custom bookshelves built by my husband that I call
my “book cave”. I’ve been building this collection since my
childhood and will keep on adding to it for the rest of my life. Of
course, I also have a similar collection of ebooks as well as I
finally went digital a few years ago.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading,
playing with my kids, doing DIY renovation projects with my husband,
cooking, and relaxing on my back porch with a good cup of coffee
while I watch the massive axis deer herd come through the yard.

Dead in the Dark by Stephen Booth

How do you prove a murder without a body?

Ten years ago, Reece Bower was accused of killing his wife, a crime he always denied. Extensive police searches near his home in Bakewell found no trace of Annette Bower’s remains, and the case against him collapsed.

But now memories of the original investigation have been resurrected for Detective Inspector Ben Cooper – because Reece Bower himself has disappeared, and his new wife wants answers.

Cooper can’t call on the Major Crime Unit and DS Diane Fry for help unless he can prove a murder took place – impossible without a body. Read an excerpt:

Chapter One

No one wants to die in the dark. To lie alone in the blackness, feeling the chill of death creep slowly over you. Shut away from the light as the fear numbs your limbs and chokes the breath in your throat. The long, long sinking into the cold depths. And then to sense that slipping away. The final slipping away into nothing.

Do you feel that stab of pain as it shoots through your chest? Try to make your breathing more shallow. You have several broken ribs, a fractured arm, perhaps a punctured lung. You can hardly know, in the dark. But you can feel the internal bleeding, the seeping blood as it squeezes your internal organs, bloats your stomach and intestines. You know your injuries are fatal.

That fear of the dark is overwhelming. Because this is true darkness, an eternal night in which your eyes have become useless. Your heart thumps uselessly as you strain to see where you’re lying. You can sense space around you, a slight movement of icy air, a shifting of heavy masses, a solid weight way above your head. A sharp, stabbing pain is in your back from something hard you’re lying on. This isn’t a grave. But it is your tomb.

Does your fear of the dark make any sense? When you’re dead, you go into endless blackness. Yet you’ve always hoped you would get one last glimpse of the light, always prayed that you wouldn’t die alone.

Well, that’s not going to happen. There’s nothing for you to see here. Not a glimmer of light, not a flicker of hope. Only the darkness.

A creak and a rattling makes you freeze. Is someone here? Or some thing? But no . . . you breathe out and release the pain. The noise has quite a different meaning. It’s something huge shifting overhead. It signals the end, the approach of your death. You’re about to be crushed completely.
