Author Andrew Harkless in the news today because March 10, 2015 marks the date his novel U Got to Have U Some Fun is fully published in eBook, paperback, and hardcover versions. This literary novel is a must read for anyone that enjoys John Irving, Herman Wouk, and/or Winston Groom. Andrew writes Everyman novels, much like The World According to Garp and Forrest Gump.

What’s an Everyman novel? The definition of Everyman is “an ordinary or typical human being: it is Everyman’s dream car.” It originated in the early 20th century as the name of the principal character in a 15th century morality play. Learn more about that here: http://andrewharkless.com/2014/06/11/the-everyman-respectfully-a-coed-noun/

Whether you are one of the 20 million people who cruise each year or someone who rarely even takes a vacation, this vivid work of fiction feels like the real thing. And, I happen to know there are some interesting facts in there about what it’s like to work on a cruise ship and some things that go on behind the scenes would shock the average passenger. After all, the author did research this book by working on a cruise ship for some time before he began writing.

About U Got to Have U Some Fun  by Andrew Harkless

John Smith, a recently divorced man and as average as his name implies, arrives home from his job at a rubber band factory to find a ticket for a cruise ship vacation in his mailbox. He assumes the ticket is from his son because Carson made him promise to break free of his boring life and, for once, travel and have some fun and the note included simply said, “It’s Time.” John is puzzled because his beloved, only child was killed six months ago while serving in the Army in Afghanistan. In order to fulfill the promise John made to Carson and though filled with anxiety about leaving his routines and comfort zone, he goes on the cruise.

During seven days of various Caribbean destinations and sea days, John meets a diverse blend of passengers and crew who influence his life in monumental ways. Each new day brings new experiences, new pleasures, a new piece of information about the source of the ticket, and a new challenge to overcome.

As John begins to emerge from his shell—less and less average, more and more adventurous, and destined for a new and richer life—the question still looms: Who bought John’s ticket?

Ordinary and typical John Smith’s life-changing vacation where the average baggage is anything but, challenges you to take stock of your own life. U Got to Have U Some Fun will have you crying, laughing, crying while laughing, angry, rooting, and ultimately saying yes to one question: Would I do anything for my children, even change?

Relics

Most of Thulu and La Fi’s clients are dead. Which is perfect since their detective agency caters to the supernatural. But a simple job finding a lost locket leads to a big case tracking relics for an ancient daemon.

The daemon needs the relics to keep a dangerous portal closed. His enemy, Gabriel, wants the relics to open the portal and give his people access to a new feeding ground – Earth.

Caught on live TV, other portals begin to open and the creatures of magic return to Earth. The people of Earth are not alone, but will soon wish they were.

When Gabriel threatens their family, Thulu and La Fi’s search becomes personal. The couple will need powerful help in the race to find the relics before Gabriel does. But maybe that’s what ghostly friends, magical allies and daemonic clients are for.

When the creatures of myth and magic return to Earth, they’re nothing like your mother’s fairy tales.

She is not ‘just a girl’ by any stretch of the imagination. When she walks on stage everyone screams with anticipation. Stepping up to the mic she feels the power radiating from the crowd—she sees the fire and longing burning in their eyes—She hears their hearts skip a beat and their breathing quicken with excitement. They have come for her, and she is ready to give herself over to them completely.

She sang—waiting for him to come—hoping he would. Then she saw him. Black hair and bright blue eyes. She would know him anywhere! She could smell him moments before he appeared and now to have him in the room—she almost couldn’t control herself. Their eyes connected and she watched, as he move through the crowd. When the song was over and the crowds’ shouts were muffled she excused herself from the stage.

They met in the center of the dance floor with hundreds of people around them, and yet they felt like they were the only two people alive. On one knee he looked up at her deep, chocolate brown eyes and confessed his hearts desires. “My heart in your hands I place. Please treat it with care and no disgrace. My love for you will forever be. Until the end of time and throughout eternity.” Her heart sank and she melted into his arms. She wanted nothing more than an eternity with him.

They shared their first and last kiss. When he finally let go and pulled away her eyes burned red. A smile of sadness revealed her fangs, and then in a second they bore into his skin. Tears fell from her eyes and a cry from his heart… “I know you can’t help it my love. Please don’t cry for me now.”
