See You Never started as a fun side project to help distract me from the frightening things that were happening in the world. We were less than a month into the lockdown; schools were closing, concerts and sports were being cancelled. It was the unknown of what was to come that left me feeling uneasy. I was lucky enough to keep my job throughout the Pandemic, working as a Public Health Nutritionist and falling under the umbrella term healthcare worker, deemed me as an essential employee. My days were filled with panicked phone calls, press releases, updates on new cases in the county, and it was all overwhelming. I couldn’t turn to television for a distraction because commercials and news outlets were a constant reminder of what was happening in the world around us.

I began reading an excessive number of books as it was the only way to truly escape. Then I got the crazy idea that it might be fun to write my own book. What started as a personal project was quickly picked up by my close friends. They requested I send them the chapters as they were written, and soon demanded more and more. It was all the encouragement I needed to continue writing my story of Ember, Ace, and Sawyer.

I’m an avid romance reader, and I knew the genre in which I would be writing had to fall under romance. I’m a sucker for a good love story, so I wrote what felt right, the words coming to me as I typed. I didn’t know how the story would end once I started writing, but eventually, a romantic suspense novel was born.

My experience writing See You Never was a fun one. I wrote the entire first manuscript over the span of about three months. After that, I set the book aside and didn’t pay it any attention for at least another two. In that time, I wrote another book, having already fallen in love with the writing process.

When I finally picked up See You Never again, I began the vigorous editing process, finding ways to expand on the original ideas I had. Once my manuscript was sent to a real editing team, things took off from there. I have this small army supporting me, helping to make this newfound dream of mine come to life, and I couldn’t be more thankful.

On February 1st, my novel See You Never was finally realeased as an eBook through Amazon/Kindle. This is only the beginning for me. See You Never has plans to be available in the future at all major retailers in paperback and hardcover. I’m excited to continue this writing journey with my additional novels Rocky Loveand Give Her the World

Book Summary:

Ember Johnson is finally living the life she’s always wanted. She has a great job, a new house, a loyal best friend, a loving mother, and the only thing missing is someone special to share it all with. Sawyer Christensen was Ember’s high school sweetheart, and quite frankly, she hasn’t loved anyone since. He was her first love, but with big love, comes big heartbreak.

Ace Cooper is a successful business owner, running many of the restaurants and bars in town. He is an attractive man who has never had a problem getting a woman’s attention. He hardly thinks about settling down, at least not until he lays eyes on the beautiful woman passed out in his bar.

Ace can’t be more mesmerized by Ember. Everything about her fascinates him. But Ember believes she is only average, having experienced very little attention from men in the past to build up her confidence. Their mutual attraction is hard to ignore. Ace could be the one thing missing from Ember’s life. She may be the one thing Ace didn’t know he needed. They could be happy together, if only Sawyer will let them.

“Top 10 interesting facts about my new book, BACULUM”

By Christina Bauer

As part of the launch for my latest book, BACULUM, the lovely folks at 411 ON BOOKS, AUTHORS, AND PUBLISHING NEWS have asked me to share a Top 10 List. Love doing these! In this case, I’m thrilled to share my top 10 list of interesting facts about my new book, BACULUM.

10. I originally had the antagonists be evil clowns. My husband talked me off that ledge. I know, I totally owe him for this one.

9.  I sometimes write books out of order. BACULUM takes place in the past right after Myla finds out she is pregnant.

8. I don’t know why I write out of order. It actually bothers the hell out of me.

7. If I try to force myself to write in order, I get writer’s block.

6. Personally, I only read series in order.

5. Therefore, Reader Me thinks Writer Me is a bitch.

4. Also, Business Me wants to take Writer Me out and kick my own ass.

3. I love myths and had a blast having my hero, Lincoln, fight various Norse monsters in what ended up being called the Viking Games. Fun!

2. I brought back a reader favorite character for this book: Walker the ghoul. If you knew him, I think he might be your favorite, too.

1. I enjoyed having my heroine, Myla, encounter pregnancy symptoms. She’s already unhinged so this was a blast!

Watch Lincoln battle Norse monsters in the Viking Games!

As King of the Thrax, Lincoln leads the most powerful demon fighting force in the after-realms… yet he cherishes nothing more than his Angelbound love, Myla. Which is why the king loses his freaking mind when the sinister Ringmaster Kell targets his pregnant wife.

So. Not. Happening.

Ringmaster Kell runs the infamous Viking Games, a series of battles where participants take on the identity of a Norse monster and fight to the death. Sounds good to Lincoln. The king sets aside his crown and enters the arena with one goal only: destroy Ringmaster Kell.

Sometimes, a warrior just needs to ignite his baculum sword and kick a ton of evil ass. But is Lincoln protecting Myla or walking into a trap?

Perfect for readers who love Vikings, Norse mythology, hot princes and cool heroines.

The things we learn when we least expect it

Research for me is a double-edged sword. I love it and I hate it. While I love learning about the past, I too often find myself reading far more than necessary because I’m fascinated by what I’ve found!

While researching A Rush of White Wings, which is set in the Boston area, I naturally came across many mentions of Benjamin Franklin; he was born in Boston and was one of the founding fathers of the United States. But what kept me reading were the stories about his three children: Francis, William, and Sarah.

Ben Franklin adored his younger son, Francis (Franky), who died from smallpox at the age of four. Though a vaccine had been in use for many years, and though Ben Franklin was a longtime advocate of vaccination, Franky had not been inoculated. At the time, many people chose not to vaccinate their children out of fear. A recent analysis of Franklin’s writings raises the possibility that Mrs. Franklin’s reluctance was why the boy had not been inoculated.

Ben Franklin later wrote in his autobiography, “In 1736 I lost one of my sons, a fine boy of four years old, by the smallpox taken in the common way. I long regretted bitterly and still regret that I had not given it to him by inoculation. This I mention for the sake of the parents who omit that operation, on the supposition that they should never forgive themselves if a child died under it; my example showing that the regret may be the same either way, and that, therefore, the safer should be chosen.”

Franklin’s older son, William, grew up to become the governor of New Jersey. In late 1775, Ben urged his son to resign his post and join the revolutionary cause. William refused. Not only was he loyal to the crown, but he believed that that most Americans wouldn’t join the revolution. He tried to arrange a reconciliation between the colonies and the king, which only served to deepen the animosity between him and his father.

Two years later, William was arrested and held in custody until he was swapped in a prisoner exchange in 1778. Eventually he moved to England. Though Ben and William had a small reconciliation after the war, things were never the same.

Finally, there is Franklin’s daughter, Sarah, who gave birth to a son, also named Benjamin (Benny). The boy so reminded Ben Franklin of his late son, Franky, that he insisted Benny accompany him (at age seven) on a diplomatic trip to France. He didn’t return the boy to his parents for nine years.

Ah, the things we learn when we least expect it. While good times and bad have been part of every year in history, I hope you find only health, peace, and joy in 2021.
